Who are we?

Austin City Spaces is a non-profit created by a group of Austinites who have seen the dramatic changes in Austin but at the expense of community gathering space. Our desire is to create spaces that builds bridges toward community, encouraging purposeful activity, and engage all of Austin into a unified discussion on how to live as neighbors and not as strangers. Austin City Spaces seeks to enter into communities with the hopes that through collaborative efforts with local residents, businesses, and city/NP organizations, we can develop vibrant community participation. We take steps toward these goals by providing a venue for conversation and implementation of ideas, establishing relationships within the Austin community, and listening to and providing a means for people to voice needs, concerns, and dreams. Our current location is located in East Austin called Space12.

Why do we exist?

We believe that the experts at community are the very people that live within the community. Our modern industrial age has produced isolated individuals with few alternatives for community. From our fast food "get in and get out" restaurants to our 8-5 jobs (clock in/out) and even our traffic system (stop/go), all encourage the notion that public spaces are not meant to be shared but rather a functional space to get us back to our private sectors as fast as possible. Austin City Spaces hopes to bring together the private/public sector in the form of "shared space" where people are encouraged to connect and sit down for a cup of coffee; where ideas are birthed on a piece of napkin. The hope of this community space is that through the collaboration of space, time, ideas, and voices, we can again reclaim spaces throughout the city for genuine community.
